Earlier this year, we reconnected with our kith, vloQee. Our connection with him goes all the way back to 2023, when we created the exclusive OATFORSEBATSMEN merchandise for his solo exhibition, The Story of Sebatsmen Stranded in Strangeland.

VloQee is a true "jack of all trades" who lives and breathes culture. He's a DJ, a curator, and a talented artist who expresses his thoughts through his art, SEBATSMEN. Originally from Surabaya, he's now based in Tokyo, where he's not just making a name for himself but also bringing together people from different backgrounds who all share a passion for culture.

When we heard he was back in his hometown, we knew we had to sit down and get to know him better. We hope you enjoy the conversation!

"I specifically like small, wavy, and smooth noodles."

Can you please introduce yourself.

I’m vloQee, I'm from Surabaya and now live in Tokyo. Many know me as an artist, but some know me as a curator and a DJ.

What have you been up to lately?

While I’m here in Surabaya, I’ve mostly been strolling around, looking for new coffee places and just drawing.

How about in Japan?

Other than working on projects and drawing, I spend time strolling around for coffee. In my free time, I'm into One Piece card games and even join some tournaments. I also play Magic: The Gathering.

“I guess itʼs Franky. He seems like a fun guy and can go anywhere he wants”

You said youʼve been strolling around looking for coffee places in Surabaya. Can you give us three recommendations?

The first one, Welasih Kopi near the Ngagel area. It might not be open yet, but the place is really interesting because of its fourf loors layout. Then there’s Drama Coffee Tunjungan because they have a fingerboard skatepark. Lastly, Kombi Cak Kribo near Jemursari. I found this place by accident, but it turned out to be amazing since the cafe is located on top of a VW Combi.

Whatʼs the most interesting thing about playing a competitive One Piece card game?

Meeting new people. I also love watching how they play and figuring out how to beat them. There was one time when I even met Mackenyu, who plays Zoro in the One Piece live-action series. He was also in the tournament.

Whoʼs your favorite One Piece character? And why?

I guess it’s Franky. He seems like a fun guy and can go anywhere he wants.

Can you give us your three favorite noodle spots?

I’ll give you one place each in Tokyo, Jakarta, and Surabaya. In Tokyo, there’s a soba place in Shimokitazawa near Bear Pond Espresso. Their truffle soba is the best out there. In Jakarta, there’s Bakmi Kasih. I’ve been there a lot; they have a great selection of noodles and it’s a great spot to hang out. In Surabaya, I frequently go to Acu Aling. Even though it’s pretty far, the vibe and their noodles are definitely worth the trip.

How do you like your noodles?

I specifically like small, wavy, and smooth noodles. I also like Mee Sua. I don’t quite like Mie Karet because it’s too chewy for me. I prefer smooth, small noodles with a savory flavor profile.

Hard or soft?

Just right, in the middle.

Weʼve seen you a lot in your JW Anderson Wellipets. Tell us about them.

The first time I saw them, my immediate response was that they were a bad-looking mule. But as time went by, I started to see the beauty in them, and I decided to buy them. I ended up wearing them a lot, especially the sandals and mules. They fit the tropical weather well. They’re breezy enough for hot days, and I don’t need to worry about them on rainy days. Plus, they’re easy to clean.

And lastly, either my earphones or a USB drive. Iʼve always got to be ready.

What are your three favorite things lately?

First, my fingerboard. I carry it everywhere. Then, caps, which are essential for summer days. And lastly, either my earphones or a USB drive. I’ve always got to be ready.

Whatʼs your current favorite cap?

This one, While I’m in Indonesia, this is the only one I have. It’s a MATI GAYA cap by azzerthecreator, my friend in Jakarta.

Which pieces from our new collection caught your attention?

I think the Saba Overshirt fits my style. Also, the Cargo Shorts–I actually had a pair of OAT Cargo Pants once and cut them myself to turn them into shorts. And finally, the Daita Barrel Pants. The fit is great, and the material is really nice.

Last question. Whatʼs your view on OAT?

It’s fresh. In Indonesia, there are rarely brands that offer an oversized fit. Most of the Indonesian brands are similar to one another. Then there’s OAT. It’s not exactly baggy, but it’s wide and can accommodate all kinds of body shapes and postures. In short, it’s fresh.

Anything you would like to add?

On behalf of vloQee, thank you.
